About the Artist


     Since 1985 Norman Laker, of Laker Signs has been hand lettering yachts in and around  Havre De Grace, Annapolis, Kent Island, downtown Baltimore and throughout the entire Chesapeake Bay area.  His  home base is in the Middle River area. He has hand painted names and graphics of every kind. He has lettered yachts for such famous people as, Billy Joel, Meyerhoff , Ed Hale, and even Henry Ford’s old yacht  “Champagne”, and hundreds of other yachts as well. He has done two sailing vessels  that have successfully circumnavigated the world. Norman, who is a sailor himself , has greatly enjoyed meeting so many yachtsmen over the years.

     Norman is a graduate from a vocational school of graphic art, and also attended the Maryland Institute of Art. He started his art career as a display artist for Hutzlers Bros Department Store decorating their windows on Howard Street in Baltimore. He then worked for Montgomery Wards as a display manager opening new stores on the East Coast. He then started with Maryland Shipbuilding & Drydock as a sign painter and artist lettering large ships of all kinds before starting his own business in 1985. His business is now almost exclusively in lettering and graphics on boats.
